According to James Randerson from www.guardian.co.uk social networks help to accumulate acquaintances rather than real friendships. I tend to agree with James Randerson's view even though I consider social networks as very helpful when your friends live abroad. Social networks such as Facebook and asmallworld offer a fantastic opportunity to keep in touch with your friends even if they might be living in other time zones and on the other side of the world. Even though the computer cannot replace a personal conversation, it can help deepen an existing acquaintance.
I have been using asmallworld to keep in touch with my friends in Los Angeles after I moved back to the UK.
